Con stood up to try and calm Frank down glancing uneasily over at Officer Tyler. Chief Collig glared at the young officer. “It’s all right, Officer Tyler – Sgt. Riley and I have everything under control.” Chief Collig closed the door as he led the officer out; he then turned back to Frank. “Calm down, Frank, and tell me why we need to find Joe.” Frank took a deep breath. He wasn’t sure if the two men were going to believe what he had to say. But he took the chance that they knew him well enough that it had to be true. ***** It was the faint floral scent that woke Joe; it reminded him of Rayne. At first he thought he was in his Forensics class, but then he was jolted around and bumped into a soft body. Joe blinked his eyes for a bit trying to adjust to the dim light. He realized that he was in the trunk of a car, bound and gagged. He turned his head and found Rayne lying next to him, her eyes closed. Rayne let out a groan when the car hit a bump in the road causing her to hit her head against Joe’s. Her eyes fluttered and then opened. Daniel hadn’t had time to tie her up; Rayne lifted a hand and touched her forehead. She let out a small shriek when she heard a muffled sound. Turning her head she found herself staring at Joe. Rayne managed to turn on her side and carefully removed the duct tape from Joe’s mouth. “What’s a nice girl like you doing in a car trunk belonging to a psychopath?” asked Joe, trying to downplay their predicament. “Are you always this funny when you’ve been kidnapped?” “I don’t know – I normally don’t have such good-looking company with me! Do you think you can get the tape off my wrists?” “I’ll try,” answered Rayne. She reached up and touched the duct tape. Rayne let out a frightened gasp and let go. Joe could feel her shivering. “What’s wrong – what did you see?” “I – didn’t – I felt – fear…rage…pain – lots of pain.” Joe felt the car slowing down and then come to a stop. They had run out of time. He could only hope that Frank would find them in time – and that Daniel wouldn’t hurt Rayne.
Daniel parked the car deep in the woods. He didn’t think he would have any trouble getting the girl to come with him. Daniel recognized her as Joe’s girlfriend. The Hardy brat he could easily carry over to the cabin. Making sure he had his gun tucked in the front of his pants, Daniel opened the trunk. He stared down at Rayne and Joe; an evil grin flitted across his face. “I have to tell you Hardy – you really know how to pick them!” ***** While searching for Joe, Callie and Tony found out that he had been seen leaving with a police officer. Thinking that Chief Collig or Con had one of the officers escort Joe to the station, the two friends left to meet up with Frank.
Chief Collig and Con stared disbelievingly at Frank – if it had been anyone else they would have tossed him in a jail cell and thrown away the key. “Frank – I find this really hard to believe. You’re telling me this girl had a vision that Daniel Reese was going to kidnap Joe?” “She didn’t really name Reese – but who else could it be?!” Frank ran his hand through his hair. “I don’t know, Frank – I just don’t know,” Chief Collig said. “I’m telling you the truth! Joe is in trouble!” Suddenly the three men were distracted by a commotion; they could hear angry voices outside the door. Con got up to see what was going on. As soon as he opened the door, Frank recognized Callie’s voice. “What do you mean, Joe Hardy isn’t here?! We were told that one of your officers picked him up!” Frank jumped out of his chair and ran out of the room, Con following behind him. He saw Callie and Tony arguing with Officer Tyler. “Callie – where’s Joe – did you find him?” “Tony and I went to the Science building and one of his classmates said that an officer approached him. They saw Joe walk off with the officer. Isn’t he here?” Frank turned to Chief Collig. “Did you send someone to get Joe?” “No, the only person I sent was Con and he was just getting you.” “Now do you believe?! It’s Reese – he has Joe!” Frank stood looking at Chief Collig with desperation and fear showing on his face. “Tyler – take Miss Shaw back to the university and get a description on that faux police officer! Riley – I want you to call the Southport station and find out where Reese used to hang-out! Maybe he went back to one of his old haunts. Frank – I need you to get your old files on Reese – hopefully we can find something in there that will tell us where he might have taken Joe.” ***** Unceremoniously pulling Rayne out of the trunk and threatening Joe with bodily harm if she tried to escape, Daniel then manhandled Joe out. He slung Joe over his shoulder and had Rayne walk ahead of him. Daniel led them to a cabin. “Is this place yours?” asked Rayne. “Nah, just borrowing it for a little while. I hope you enjoy your stay.” Daniel sneered. He led Rayne to a bedroom, where he threw Joe on the floor. “You get the bed, lover boy gets the floor. Get in the bed and lie still while I make sure you stay there.” Rayne crawled into the bed; she tried not to show how scared she was. Daniel had her raise her arms above her head and then tied them to the bed post. He smiled at her as his hand slid slowly down her arm. “Mmm – nice and soft! Have you felt how soft her skin is, Hardy?” Daniel had turned his head to stare over at Joe; he smiled gleefully when he saw the rage on the young Hardy’s face. Yes this was going to be so much fun!
